About Me

I have been working as a speech pathologist since 1990.  Over this time I have accumulated a lot of resources across three different websites – BusyBugKits, SpeechBookShelf and BabyChatter.  This website is an amalgamation of this work.  I hope it helps you when you are working with your little clients!

Clinic & Waiting Room

The waiting room of a speech pathology clinic can provide lots of ideas for parents about play and communication. You can use the noticeboard but why not have a role play theme that changes term by term? All our waiting room ideas packs include large title signs and smaller item signs for labelling objects.

1. Uber Eats

Put out some pretend food, recyclable containers, money, phone, menus and takeaway boxes. Children can ‘order’ food on the phone or be a ‘delivery man’ or ‘chef’.

2. At the Beach

Lay out some blue material (ocean) and fill it with toy ocean animals. You can also have a beach bag nearby containing sunglasses, beach towel, thongs and goggles for children to try on!

 3.  Cafe

Set up a cafe in your waiting room. You can use a tea set, keep cups, money, menu and plastic food. Great for children to ‘take coffee orders’ from parents!

4. Vet Clinic / Doctor

Put all your toy animals in little boxes or baskets. You can have either a Pet Shop or Vet clinic. In the pet shop, the animals can be ‘for sale’ or come in for grooming or pet food supplies. In the clinic, you can have a doctor kit available for ‘sick animals’.

5. Gardening

Set up your own backyard! You can use plastic or felt vegetables to ‘plant’ in the pots. Some clothing items for dressing up include hat, gardening gloves and wellington boots. Small plastic insects can be dotted around the garden and ‘caught’ with a net.
